I grew up in various small towns in Oregon and Northern California, and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area shortly after graduating from high school. After living and working here while going to school, I realized the Bay Area had become "home." I think I've lived here long enough now to call myself a "native."
I worked as a waitress in a French restaurant while working toward my Bachelor of Arts and Multiple Subject teaching credential at Dominican University. I am not sure where I ended up learning more! I spent a year teaching in Denver, Colorado (while working as a restaurant events manager in the evenings), but realized I could not live that far from the ocean.
When I returned to the Bay Area, I took what was supposed to be an interim job writing surveillance reports for a small private investigative firm. While it was by no means an exciting or glamorous position (most of what we investigated was insurance fraud, so the surveillance footage was not exactly riveting), it did end up taking me in a whole new direction. I learned a ton about publishing, video editing, and HTML. Around this time, I also discovered a passion for digital art and graphic design. I started out designing fliers, logos and album covers for local bands, yoga teachers, tattoo artists and other small businesses. I eventually branched out into art direction for websites and other areas of corporate design. Through this work, I met someone who recommended me for a position at The Marin School.
It is at TMS where I found a place where all of my passions and skills found alignment: my love of education, art, design, events, publishing (and yes, Instagram and advanced document formatting).
I live in Petaluma with my partner and our son Elliott. In my spare time I love to hike, play music, play with Illustrator, attempt overly-ambitious cakes, and document it all on Instagram.
