Hi, my name is Rachel and I am the Mental Health counselor at The Marin School. I have a hugely varied work and educational background though most of it leans toward education. I have a BA from Wells College in World Religions (pretty much anthropology, though I didn't study ancient farming techniques unless they were related to religious doctrine). I have an MS in Counseling/Psychology from CSU Stanislaus. My love for working with high school aged students stemmed from a program that I helped run in Montana where over the summer we taught high school students how to build trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking to the level expected by the forest service. From Montana I started working for an outdoor ed company in Yosemite National Park where I honed my skills working with teenagers on Social Emotional Learning and backpacking. I loved watching my students grow through the concepts of social emotional learning and the magic that is the outdoors. To continue in this path I decided to pursue an MS in Counseling/Psychology from Cal State Stanislaus. After my program ended I was overjoyed to be able to send an application to The Marin School who was looking for a counselor to teach Social Emotional learning in a non-traditional education environment. I am overjoyed to be working in such a close knit and neurodiverse community and can't wait to both facilitate and see how the learning continues to unfold.
