Cesar Chavez Day of service

In observance of Cesar Chavez Day in 2021, the TMS community commemorated the life and work of Cesar Chavez by creating a fully virtual day that still fulfills the mission of community and service. Traditionally, this has been a day when students, faculty, and staff members visit various places in our community to support and give back to. While the pandemic limited our physical ability to do community service, TMS learned about a variety of options they can take on as part of their community service while still being virtual.

Examples of how TMS students and faculty fulfilling the mission of the day:

"I learned that just being positive and a cheery presence towards these people can make so much of a difference and they really appreciate it."

Tara L. participated in the Pet Show & Tell Zoom call with elderly members in her community.

While I was cleaning up, I noticed that a lot of people thanked my brother and I for picking up garbage. From this I learned that keeping my neighborhood clean does not only benefit the environment, but can also be a good way for sharing positivity and connecting with your community.

Emily M. and her brother cleaned up trash around her neighborhood.
