Everything you need to know about applying to The Marin School! Please follow the steps below to complete the process.  Let us know if you have any questions. We are here to help!

Step 1:

set up your ravenna profile

Complete your student profile on Ravenna. From the School Directory, select The Marin School and click Explore or Apply. You will then be able to register for TMS admission events.

Step 2:

visit tms!

Start with a small-group campus tour, attend a virtual Info Session, and join us for an optional Open House Event.  Click here to learn more about scheduling your visit.

As you progress, your Ravenna account will display a checklist specific to your application to The Marin School. Each step will be marked as complete by our office as your documents are received and processed.  If you have a question or would like to confirm your documents were received, you can contact us at

Step 3:Apply

all the steps needed to complete your application:

  • Parent/Guardian Questionnaire

  • Student Application - this includes a questionnaire and short essay,

  • Current transcript, grade reports from current and previous year

  • Principal/Counselor recommendation

  • Current English teacher recommendation

  • Current math teacher recommendation

    • Recommendations can be requested within Ravenna and submitted by your teachers online. Please check with your current school and use their preferred method to request these forms.

Important note: TMS has never required the SSAT or any form of standardized testing in our Admissions process.  Beginning in 2019, TMS moved to a test-free policy - we will not accept or review standardized test scores.

For students with diagnosed learning needs: The Marin School community recognizes and celebrates the strengths of our neurodiverse students. In order to support our ability to make well-informed decisions for placement, it is important for parents and guardians to fully disclose in the application materials all relevant information regarding the applicant’s learning needs.

Step 4: interview

schedule your 1-on-1 interview with our admissions team

  • Students: Let us get to know you!  Schedule your 1-on-1 interview with a member Admissions Interview (December-February). The student interview is designed to get to know each student "in 3D."  We'll ask you about your hobbies and interests, the ways you feel you learn best, and more.

  • Parents and Guardians:  You are invited to join the conversation immediately following the student interview.  This is your opportunity to tell us all the things about your student that you weren't able to cover in the application, as well as ask any questions you might have.

  • Prerequisite: To help inform the conversation, Parent + Student portions of the application should be complete or in progress before scheduling this step.

Step 5: review tms tuition, fees, + financial aid

apply for financial aid

  • The Marin School has partnered with NAIS' Student and School Services (SSS) to collect and analyze your financial information and make awards based on financial need. This service is widely used and trusted by independent schools.
