Summer Reading Assignment:

English 2: World/ Multicultural Literature

Introduction: English 2 takes a multicultural approach to thinking critically about the real issues in our society-- past, present, and future-- through reading literature of varied genres, topics, and cultures. Over the summer, you will read one of the books listed below. Included are the summaries, but it is highly suggested that before deciding on a book, you read the first chapter of the book to see if it’s the right fit. Additionally, please choose a book that is appropriate for your reading level and interests. You have the option of selecting a book from the honors list if you believe you are able to read at a more advanced level and/or if you would like to challenge yourself.

English 2 Honors: World/ Multicultural Literature

Introduction:

English 2 Honors takes a multicultural approach to thinking critically about the real issues in our society-- past, present, and future-- through reading literature of varied genres, topics, and cultures. The honors-level course is writing-intensive; the curriculum emphasizes advanced critical analysis of sophisticated texts, which gives you the opportunity to explore complex, multilayered aspects and themes of multiculturalism. As honors students, you will begin to investigate some of these themes during the summer, as you read a book of you choice from the list below. Included are the summaries, but it is highly suggested that before deciding on a book, you read the first chapter of the book and a few book reviews to see if it’s the right fit.
