Swimming Upstream - Salmon and the Bay Area

Hardly a day goes by when salmon aren’t in the news.

Salmon are a barometer for the health of the Bay Area. We are setting out to discover some of the myriad connections to our local history and economy. We intend to explore different sides of this topic by getting out and speaking with many of the participants – including environmentalists, scientists, commercial fishermen, farmers, and others whose livelihoods are affected by this fish. We will also go to salmon spawning steams and explore their life cycle, and see how this affects the economics and politics behind this fascinating fish. The group will collaborate on how to best present our findings to the community.
