Fashion Week

We'll spend the week exploring fashion as an artistic medium and investigating approaches to adorning the body from haute couture to up-cycling of discarded garments.

We will visit the deYoung Museum to view the new show of legendary designer Cristobal Balenciaga, hailed as “fashion’s Picasso”, and then head to the Legion of Honor to see the life-size costumes constructed entirely of paper by Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave.

We will talk to gallery and boutique owners about the local indie fashion scene while visiting venues such as Resident Apparel Gallery, Wonderland SF, Secession Art & Design, and Five & Diamond.

We will go shopping and thrifting for materials and garments that we might completely alter and give new life to. We will sketch and journal everyday as we are inspired with ideas.

If the stars are aligned and we can get our hands on this hot ticket, we will attend the Charity Fashion Show 2011, at Fort Mason on Saturday, April 2, for what is known as the largest runway event on the West Coast!

This week is a kick-off to our new club where we will meet weekly after school and clubs-period to create garments and accessories for our own fashion show at the TMS Festival of the Arts in May.
