Overview
We will be exploring the San Francisco Bay Area “off the beaten path” through the lense of a digital camera.
On each of the first four days we will visit unique and wonderful places all around the Bay Area and capture images of those places. Each day we will stop for lunch at an iconic eatery on location. We will return to school in the afternoon to download those images, sort them, edit them and publish them in our own individual blogs.
On the fifth day, we will work together as a group to assemble the most interesting and provocative images into an album that we will publish and present to the school.
You will have a chance to visit some great, but little known places in the Bay Area, learn and improve your photography skills, begin to master Adobe Photoshop and have a great time.
What You Need to Bring
- Digital Camera (at least 4 megapixels – cell phone cameras are insufficient)
- Good shoes, warm clothing and rain gear
- Energy, enthusiasm and a sense of adventure
Itinerary
Day 1 - Wednesday January 7
Meet at school at 8:45 am and depart at 9 am for the Sutro Baths. Visit the ruins and the giant camera obscura. Swing by the landmark Doggy Diner sign. Next up is Golden Gate Park. Observe the bison, see the windmills, visit the Portals of the Past and capture the Prayer Book Cross. Have lunch and return to school to download and edit your photos.
Day 2 - Thursday January 8
Meet at school at 8:45 am and depart at 9 am for North Beach. Stop by 101 Music and the Japantown Peace Tower. Then it’s off to SOMA, the Leopard Cow, and lunch at Brain Wash Café. Last stop is 6th and Howard to photograph the furniture mounted on the building. Return to school to download and edit your photos, and begin work on your blog.
Day 3 - Friday January 9
Meet at school at 8:45 am and depart at 9 am for the Presidio Pet Cemetery, the Palace of Fine Arts, the Wave Organ, and a private tour of the Musee Mechanique at Pier 39. Have lunch and return to school to download and edit your photos, and post them to your blog.
Day 4 - Monday January 12
Meet at school at 8:45 am and depart at 9am for the East Bay. Visit the dump - walk the trails at the Albany Landfill. Have lunch on the way to Urban Ore in Berkeley. Return to school to download and edit your photos, and continue work on your blog.
Day 5 -Tuesday January 13
Arrive at school by 9 am. Share images with each other and choose the most intriguing images for the group album. Layout the pictures and text for the album.
