On Camera Auditioning Workshop

Workshop Goals

First and foremost, students will learn how to present themselves with confidence, ease, sincerity and a positive, cooperative attitude in potentially tense situations.

Students will also have the opportunity to practice an attitude of professionalism in a creative pursuit that they are passionate about.

Finally, students will enjoy a fun experience of the professional performance world, which could also prepare them actually to enter that world in some capacity if they so choose at some point.

General Menu of Activities

  1. self-introduction practice, on camera and off
  2. reading commercial scripts, solo and with partners
  3. on-camera improv skills
  4. taking direction
  5. critiquing own work by watching playback
  6. mock audition situations resulting in an audition tape
  7. having actual headshots taken
  8. practice developing a resume

Expenses and Requirements

  1. a $10 contribution from each student to cover small incidental costs such as a personal high-definition video tape to take home at the end of the week;
  2. students to provide for their own lunches each day.

DAY ONE (Wednesday)

  • morning: intro, followed by theatre games and warm-ups
  • afternoon: specific auditioning skills

DAY TWO (Thursday)

DAY THREE (Friday)

  • SPECIAL SCHEDULE: session from 11:00 to 6:00
  • morning: warm-ups, followed by auditioning improv
  • afternoon: specific auditioning skills

DAY FOUR (Monday)

  • OUTING: visit to the photographer’s studio
  • morning: practice photography at school as a warm-up
  • afternoon: take two vans to San Francisco studio, where each student will have the opportunity to pose for actual headshots

DAY FIVE (Tuesday)

  • MOCK AUDITION FINALE
  • ON-CAMERA REVIEW AND CRITIQUE
  • PRODUCTION OF AUDITION TAPE TO TAKE HOME
