Spanish

I am a native of Spain and a graduate of the University of Phoenix in the U.S. where I received my Bachelors of Science in Business and Information Systems. My second degree consisted of a Master of Arts in Language Pedagogy with a concentration in Spanish. My graduate work and research has been centered in Second Language Acquisition, Teaching Methodology, and Online (web-based) instruction. I have been employed as a full-time Instructor with the University of Utah’s Department of Language and Literature, taught Spanish as a second language in Spain for two years, and managed an after-school Spanish program for the Salt Lake City School District.

Over the past ten years I have had excellent opportunities to teach a variety of Spanish courses; from first-year Spanish to third-year at a university level, a variety of elementary classes, and recently high school levels. In my teaching I adhere to the Communicative Approach, placing the emphasis on developing the students’ communicative proficiency, lecturing in the target language, and incorporating authentic materials into classroom and homework assignments.

We recently moved from Madrid, Spain to Mill Valley, CA. I have two children ages 11 and 18 and both are fully bilingual (I strongly believe in the benefits of learning a second language and culture). I love the outdoors: hiking and biking, traveling, socializing and enjoying great coffee.

The Marin School is a great school. I teach three Spanish levels with an average of five students per class. Each student brings a unique background, experience, and attitude making my classes very diverse and enjoyable. I really appreciate being able to work in a more individualize setting.

My goal is to continue to develop myself professionally, keep sharing the love for my country, my language, my culture, and teaching.
