I received a BA from Beloit College and New York University, with a double major in Philosophy and Classical Civilizations. After graduation, I moved to Israel and began teaching outdoor education, history and experiential education as a tour guide/ educator. I was chosen as a first-year Fellow for a program funded by Bronfman Institute for educators. This program’s mission was to train teachers in experiential and tour guide education. I worked in this field for a number of years and designed and guided trips for students in Israel as well as the surrounding countries of Jordan and Egypt.
I returned to the US to study and teach environmental education and fell in love with living in California; a few years later I obtained a teaching credential in Social Science/History from Dominican University and started working on a Masters in Education. My transition to becoming a classroom teacher was influenced by the many positive role models and excellent teachers that I had experienced throughout my life. I knew that striving to become a positive role model for students would naturally encourage them to develop strong values as well as helping them to develop a quest for knowledge and curiosity.
At the same time, I also co-founded a nonprofit consulting firm with my husband and began a family! Since then, life has never been boring.
The Marin School is a unique place - it is a small, close-knit community that provides a supportive environment for students who seek real challenges in their learning, and who want to be an acknowledged voice in their high school experience. We are able to work with students to individually craft their academic growth and inspire them to go beyond their comfort levels in the realm of learning, problem solving, and self-expression. Hence, the unending questions and our students’ constantly shaping their learning is why I love being at the Marin School.
Spending time with family is of the utmost importance to me and teaching my two sons fun things as well: especially ‘the art of bartering' so they can find their buried treasures at yard sales and flea markets around the world. I also serve as Program Director for Ultimate Peace, a non-profit that unites the sport of Ultimate Frisbee with children living in conflict zones. In my spare time I teach Spin Cycling at a local women’s gym, and participate in open water swim races during the summer.
