Ted West - Executive Chair

Parent of Jonathan West, Class of 2003, has served as Chair of the Board of Trustees since 2002. Since then, he has led the development, site, finance, trustee, and executive committees of the Board.

Ted is currently the CEO of LookSmart, a publicly-listed San Francisco-based search advertising services company. He is also the Managing Director of Sage Partners, a venture development advisory services firm with early-stage venture clients around the world. Previously, Ted launched, grew, and sold four start-up companies in the internet marketing services industry from its pioneering days in the mid-1990s. He received his AB from Princeton University, and his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ted enjoys sailing, hiking, sports, and traveling to the British Virgin Islands to do as little as possible.

Mary Croughan- Vice Chair

Parent of Aine Minihane, Class of 2009, now at UC Davis, and Maeve Minihane, Class of 2014, is serving her second year as a Trustee of The Marin School.

Mary is the Executive Director of the Research Grants Program Office for the University of California, Office of the President. Prior to serving in this role, she was a Professor at UC San Francisco for 23 years and she served as Chair of the Academic Senate and as a faculty representative to the UC Board of Regents. She received her bachelors degree from UC Davis and her doctoral degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. She is a native of Marin County and loves spending time at the beach and in the hills with her family.

Anna West - Secretary

Parent of Jonathan West, Class of 2003, is serving her sixth year on the Board. Anna chairs the development committee.

Anna is co-founder and principal of Kearns & West, a national strategic communications and collaboration firm which specializes in environmental, energy and water issues. Anna has a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, and an M.S. in Communications from Boston University.

David Currie - Treasurer

Parent of Patric Currie, Class of 2011, is serving his second year on the Board. A resident of San Francisco, David serves on the Finance and Executive Committees.

A graduate of San Francisco State University, he is a serial entrepreneur and venture catalyst and has helped numerous startups along the path to success.

Merrill Boyce - Member

Parent of Lily Boyce, Class of 2013, now at the Rhode Island School of Design is serving his third year on the Board. Merrill has degrees from Yale, Duke and the University of Bombay where he was a Fulbright Scholar for two years. He has significant international study and work experience from which he has wrangled knowledge of a half dozen languages and fluency in a few.

Merrill also holds an IMBA and is associated with the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical industries, nationally and internationally. He has served as a publicly elected board member of the Reed Union School District since 1997 and he sits on the board of other non-profit organizations.

Madeleine Buckingham - Member

Parent of Alyx, Class of 2013, is serving her first year on the Board.

Madeleine has been the President and CEO of Mother Jones since February 2010. Recognized by its peers for the best in independent journalism—including the 2010 National Magazine Award for General Excellence and the Online News Association’s 2010 award for Online Topical Reporting—Mother Jones provides its readers with in-depth investigative journalism, breaking news, and commentary via its bimonthly magazine and online at MotherJones.com. 

Prior to Madeleine’s current role, she held the position of COO/CFO and joined Mother Jones in 2002. She has spent more than 25 years in senior finance and management positions in the publishing and high-tech industries working for a range of publishing companies and Internet startups, including Sony Corp.'s Internet incubator and at International Data Group. 

Madeleine lives in Mill Valley with her 3 children and husband Warren Levine.

Shawn Conly - Member

Shawn Conly is the father of Sopah (TMS Class of 2015) and daughter Rani, currently in 8th grade at the Laurel School in San Francisco.  Shawn grew up as a faculty brat at a private boarding school in north east Ohio (Western Reserve Academy) and recently completed a three year term on the Alumni Board for that school. 

Shawn is currently the VP, Advertising and Media at Electronic Arts in Redwood City where he manages the global advertising for games like The SIms, Madden Football, FIFA, and Battlefield.  He has had a lengthy career in marketing and advertising including stints at advertising agencies (Draft FCB, Digitas) and client side at Intel. 

Shawn lives in the West Portal neighborhood of San Francisco and enjoys soccer, skiing, and fixing up his 1939 house.

Maria Gudmundsdottir - Member

Parent of Anna Esther, class of 2014, is serving her first year on the Board. A resident of San Francisco, Maria is a registered nurse working for Hospice by the Bay.

She received a B.S. in nursing from University of Iceland, M.N. from University of Calgary, Canada and PhD from University of California, San Francisco. She is certified in Thanatology through Association of Death Education and Counseling. Maria is a native of Iceland.

Beth Jordan - Member

Parent of Alex, Class of 2011, is serving her third year on the Board. A resident of Greenbrae, Beth is an attorney and partner in Greene & Jordan.

She received her B.A. in Political Science from The University of California, Los Angeles, and her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley. She is certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in Family Law. She is a member and past President of the Marin County Bar Association.

Lee Larsen - Member

Parent of Bob, Class of 2014, Lee is serving her first year on the board. Lee has managed Larsen Engineering in Sausalito for more than twenty years. Concurrently, she has consulted with individuals and small businesses as a professional organizer in time, paper and cash management. Lee, a founding member of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers, has served for two years on their advisory board. She is pursuing accreditation as a life coach and is currently writing a book on financial literacy for twenty year olds.

Lee enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, skiing and sailing and does a triathlon each year to spice up her fitness goals. Lee’s older son Michael is majoring in Geology, at the University of Colorado Boulder with the Class of 2012.  She lives with her husband, Henry Larsen, and sons in Mill Valley.

Jan Nielsen Little - Member

Parent of Robert, Class of 2011, is serving her third year on the Board. Jan has abundant School Board experience, having served for nine years on the Board at Marin Primary and Middle School in Larkspur and for three years on the Board at the Head-Royce School in Oakland.

Jan is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Yale Law School, and is a member of Keker & Van Nest LLP in San Francisco handling white collar criminal defense and complex business litigation. Jan's husband Rory teaches at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, and their two younger children attend independent schools in Marin.

Sue Stevenson - Member

Parent of Grace, Class of 2015, is serving her first year on the Board.

Chip Vetter - Faculty Member

Earned an AB in Psychology from Dartmouth College and a JD at Harvard Law School. He enjoys his work at The Marin School because it affords him the opportunity to work with bright, motivated students in small classes and to have a meaningful impact on each student's academic growth.

Chip also appreciates the freedom he has to structure the curriculum in ways that intellectually stimulate and challenge his students. He is also enjoying working with his fellow faculty members, whom he believes are among the best teachers he has known.
